Ribcor Meat Products, now known as West Peak Meats, was founded in April 1999 by Juan Slabbert.
Ribcor was the legacy of four generations of meat merchants, with knowledge passed down from one generation to the next. The original name ‘Ribcor Meat Products’ stemmed from the company’s first signature product, Pre-cooked Spare Ribs.
After the success of this signature product, Juan developed and introduced a unique range of high quality, expertly blended, and flavorful meat products and sausages to the industry.
Following in the footsteps of his father (Jan Slabbert – HELDERBERG BACON FACTORY), he then ventured into smoked meats, introducing a range of high quality smoked sausages and other products, including bacon made with age-old family recipes, the traditional way – the way it should be.
Our products have left a mark in the hearts of consumers and the company has grown to become a valuable and preferred manufacturer for many major retailers in the foodservice industry.
The name Ribcor slowly became a limitation to the company’s growth and success as it indirectly limited the product range. The company name was consequently changed to suit the future strategy, aspirations, and extensive product portfolio. That is how ‘West Peak Speciality Meats’ was born. The name also pays tribute to Helderberg Bacon Factory – the business Juan’s father built up as a young man.
Today we strive to provide superior quality products that have been handcrafted by our dedicated team and influenced by four generations of meat merchants, since 1908.
Our range of products can be found in most retailers like Checkers, Shoprite, Spar, OK and Pick n Pay. We also successfully started exporting to Namibia from 2019. We are currently the National supplier of the Checkers house brand for convenience foods. We were also previously voted supplier of the year at Shoprite.
