Ingredients:
Bread dough
Butter
1 x West Peak Meats Pepper ham
Slices of cheddar cheese
Method:
Prepare a cast iron square pot – we used our #bushbaby bread pot!
Tip: Grease it out with butter to ensure the dough does not stick.
Prepare your dough – you can use store-bought dough or make your own.
Knead the dough and place half in the iron pot. Add a double layer of pepper ham and cheese then cover with the remaining dough. Put the lid on and allow for the dough to rise. Remember to spread butter on the lid as well.
Place the pot on a grid over medium heat coals. Also place coals on the lid and allow to bake.
Once it is fully cooked, allow to cool slightly, then remove it onto a breadboard. Cover with a cloth and let it sit for a bit. Serve with butter.
We chose the pepper ham as its taste permeates through the dough, giving it a delightful flavour due to the pepper. And of course nothing rounds off a braai bread like cheese!
Note: This can also be done in the oven.
